Code Of Conduct

916 Swing promotes a safe dance. Please consider the following code of conduct throughout the evening. Violations of the code of conduct may result in removal from the dance without a refund.

  • Respect fellow dancers regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or appearance.

  • Safety is a priority so feel free to turn down a dance if you feel uncomfortable. If someone touches you inappropriately or hurts you, you may tell them "no" or "stop". If someone tells you "no" or "stop", please respect their request. If you get turned down for a dance, ask someone else and try again later. If they refuse multiple times, stop asking them.

  • Do not offer advice, teaching, or criticism on someone's dancing unless it is solicited.

  • Be polite to all dancers, volunteers and 916 Swing staff. Thank your partner when your dance has concluded.

  • 916 Swing does not tolerate harassment in any form.  This includes comments in person or online, that are offensive, hostile, or sexual propositions, unauthorized photographs or videos, displays of sexual imagery, unwanted physical contact, intimidation, stalking, verbal or physical abuse, and disruptive behavior. If you experience any kind of harassment or if you see it happening to someone else, notify a member of the 916 Swing staff so we can take action.

  • Be cautious of injuries that fellow dancers may have. You may not know that your partner is recovering from an injury so do not dance in a manner that increases the risk of hurting your partner or another dancer. Avoid forcing moves by jerking or yanking your partner.  Avoid dips, lifts, drops, and weight-supported moves that you have not done with that partner or that they may not be expecting. Not only can these injure you or your partner but they can also cause collisions with other dancers. If someone falls, or is injured, offer assistance. Contact staff if medical attention is necessary. In an emergency, call 911.

  • Be welcoming and inviting. Encourage and dance with people of different skill levels and welcome newcomers & novice dancers.

  • Most of the staff consists of volunteers. Please be courteous to them and respect their requests to see wristbands if asked.

  • There will be a table dedicated for event fliers and promotion of other dance events. Please do not solicit your goods or services to other attendees unless you received approval from the dance host/director.

  • Please follow all 916 Swing mandates. We are being mindful of the Covid/Delta variant and will follow all County, State and Federal mandates/guidelines. If you are feeling under the weather, we ask you to please stay at home and get better. We want 916 Swing to be a safe and healthy environment.

  • According to California state law, smoking, including e-cigarettes or vaping, is not permitted inside or outside on the patio. If you must smoke, please use the designated smoking areas. California state law also prohibits the consumption of alcohol by persons under 21 years of age. Do not sneak in to the dance or damage or steal someone's property. Violators will be reported to staff or local law enforcement if necessary. Person's who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol or are a danger to others or is disorderly or destructive will be asked to leave and will be held personally responsible for property damage.
